About Me

Hello. I’m Emma, or rather, Mama Soup and this is my crew. Welcome to my blog! It is my mission here to share, entertain, and maybe even enlighten as I record my families attempts to join the “slow food”, “slow home” and just in general “slow” movement that is sweeping the country.

Why? Because we are already slow, seemed like a natural fit. There are six of us on most days and seven on the others, which means it takes upwards of twenty minutes to simply load into the van. While I feel like I am constantly moving fast I don’t seem to be going anywhere except straight to bed after the children are down. I have realized that my exhaustion, stress and constant running is not how it has to be, nor what I want.

I am a homemaker and in 2011 that equates to a Soccer Mom. I always wanted to be a homemaker, but NOT a Soccer Mom. I’m talking about the bedraggled looking woman with a coffee stain on her t-shirt, an extra toothbrush in her purse, 7 different sports balls rolling around on the floor of her SUV and 3 sizes/styles of car seats piled in the trunk (because you just never know who will be picking up whom from where and what friend might be tagging along). I am taking back the homemaker status of yesteryear and reclaiming the image of a lovely lady wearing an apron with her children happily playing while she cooks a nice homemade dinner.

Now, I realize that these images were actually fake and that most of those homemakers were not happy, but I believe that it is an achievable goal. I’m not saying I won’t have coffee stains, or not be bedraggled (or for that matter not have sports balls in the van). What I am saying is that I will have a smile on my face and not a fake one. I want to enjoy my children, my home and even my chores. I want less running around pretending to be busy with mere busy work and more sitting around enjoying and appreciating all that already is. That is my goal. Join me, here on Stirred Up Soup, and I will prove that it is attainable!

Peace,

Mama Soup

*Side Note: This blog and my above mission started in 2011. There are post here from previous blogs (dating back to 2009) that are entertaining and here for historical purposes. Please enjoy those post, but know that during those years we were just surviving, not with any other purpose than to make it to the next day.
